LONDON — Led by a ground attack that dominated the time of possession for North Laurel, the Jaguars took care of business Friday and defeated crosstown rival South Laurel, 21-3, securing a home playoff game during the process.
After a scoreless first quarter, North Laurel (7-2) fell behind 3-0 before scoring 21 unanswered points to secure an 18-point win over the Cardinals (8-2).
Steven Nelson’s squad unofficially outgained South Laurel in total yardage, 258-112.
The Jaguars now lead the overall series with the Cardinals, 20-15. South Laurel won 11 of the first 15 games between the two teams before watching the Jaguars win 17 of the last 20 matchups.
Cooper Robinson rushed for more than 100 yards and two touchdowns while Gage Baker returned a fumble for a score.
“I’m so proud of the way our team responded,” Nelson said. “We played very physical and were able to play great defense. Our guys were all over the field tonight and they dominated the line of scrimmage. Any time you play the team from across town, a lot of emotions are involved and everybody wants to play their best game. Our guys executed the game plan and even when tired kept playing hard and physical. Go Jags.”
