Yellow Jackets Sting Harlan, Clinch Home Playoff Game

HARLAN — Jerry Herron’s Williamsburg Yellow Jackets left no doubt Friday night, rolling to a dominant 56-8 victory over Harlan to secure a first-round home playoff game.

Quarterback Reece Hatcher delivered one of his best performances of the season, throwing for more than 300 yards and five touchdowns to lead the offensive onslaught.

“We played physical and with a lot of emotion,” Herron said. “We ran the opening kickoff back for a TD, and executed the game plans well. Our offensive and defensive lines played well tonight.”

The fireworks began early when Chase Meddles returned the opening kickoff for a touchdown. Meddles later added a receiving score, continuing his all-around standout night.

Peyton Hamilton hauled in two touchdown receptions, while Lane Jeffries and T.J. Cornett each added a touchdown catch and a two-point conversion.

On the ground, Eli Meadors powered the rushing attack with two touchdowns and a pair of two-point conversions, and Lani Cauto also found the end zone with a rushing score.

To cap off the night, Landon Miller caught a touchdown pass from Hayden Kleinert, sealing the Jackets’ most complete performance of the season as they head into the postseason with momentum and home-field advantage.
