WILLIAMSBURG — Keira Cheek delivered the decisive assist and turned in a strong all-around performance as Whitley County battled past Casey County, 1-0, in girls soccer action.
“In a hard-fought battle of wills tonight, Whitley edged Casey County 1-0,” Whitley County coach Becky Prewitt said. “The match was a rough, physical contest from start to finish, but a brilliantly weighted through ball from Keira Cheek to Jerrica Shepherd sliced through Casey’s back line and put Whitley on the board.
“Keira Cheek was the clear and deserving Player of the Game,” she added. “She battled tirelessly against Casey’s strong offense all evening and delivered the decisive assist for the team’s lone goal.”
In a physical, hard-fought matchup, Cheek provided the breakthrough when she sent a perfectly placed through ball past Casey County’s back line to Jerrica Shepherd, who finished the opportunity for the match’s only goal.
Cheek also played a key role in helping Whitley County contain Casey County’s attack throughout the contest, earning Player of the Game honors for her performance.
