Corbin claims Class 4A, District 8 championship with 47-13 win over Perry Central

HAZARD — The Corbin Redhounds are once again district champions.

Behind an explosive offensive performance and dominant first half, Corbin cruised to a 47-13 victory over Perry County Central to capture the Class 4A, District 8 title on Friday night.

The Redhounds — now 6-3 on the season and winners of three straight — wasted no time setting the tone.

Cole Stevens opened the scoring with a three-yard touchdown run midway through the first quarter, and Trey Person followed with an 11-yard score to give Corbin a 13-0 lead after one.

Corbin poured it on in the second quarter. Quarterback Mason Salmons found the end zone on a six-yard run before connecting with Zach Thomas for touchdown passes of 44 and 40 yards to extend the margin to 33-0.

Moments later, Cam Estep electrified the crowd with a 72-yard punt return touchdown, giving the Redhounds a commanding 40-0 halftime lead.

Perry Central finally broke through with a 65-yard kickoff return to open the second half, but the Redhounds answered immediately when Salmons hit Tayton Cox for a 72-yard strike to push the lead to 47-7.

Perry Central added one final score late in the fourth quarter, but the night belonged to Corbin, who wrapped up district play in dominating fashion.

The Redhounds will close out the regular season on the road next Friday against Great Crossing.
