LONDON — Despite watching her team to get off to a slow start, first-year coach Jessica Perkins continued to remain positive and never lost faith in her Lady Cardinals.
After getting off to a 0-7 start, the hard work and never-give-up attitude paid off Tuesday as South Laurel stunned Corbin in overtime with a 2-1 win.
Gracie Hoskins scored both goals in the win for South Laurel while Trista Brown added an assist.
“The intensity was evident tonight,” Perkins said. “The girls came out from the beginning of the first half and didn’t stop fighting till the whistle blew after our second goal in overtime. Teamwork was there and we looked like a complete different team. I knew a win was coming for us and we’re happy that it was tonight. So proud of them.”
“We looked rough tonight,” Corbin coach Hannah Goins said. “We definitely didn’t play our best game. We had plenty of opportunities but we just couldn’t capitalize.
“We played slower than normal and South definitely took advantage of that,” she added. “We were just off tonight. Now we just need to regroup and be ready going into the end of the season.”
Sophie Cima scored Corbin’s lone goal.
