WILLIAMSBURG — The Corbin Lady Redhounds earned a straight-set district victory over crosstown rival Williamsburg on Tuesday, winning 25-18, 25-20, and 25-18.
With the win, Corbin improved to 16-6 on the season, while the Lady Yellow Jackets moved to 11-11.
“I’m really proud of the way our girls rallied tonight,” Corbin coach Krystal Jones said. “We had to battle through an injury and some adversity, but they stepped up, made big plays, and showed a lot of heart. Williamsburg is always a tough environment to play in, and to come out of there with a district win says a lot about our team’s resilience. I couldn’t be prouder of them.”
Williamsburg coach Dirk Berta praised the competitiveness of the matchup and his team’s spirit.
“Tonight was a very competitive match and I want to give credit to both teams for handling some unforeseen circumstances,” Williamsburg coach Dirk Berta said. “The crowd atmosphere tonight was great and I’m very appreciative of how both fan bases get behind their girls and the sport of volleyball.
“The strength of our team is how we always pull together in every situation,” he added. “I love this team and these girls. We will have an opportunity tomorrow at practice to get better and then we play another quality opponent on Thursday when Leslie County comes to Williamsburg. As always, Go Jackets.”
