MANCHESTER — Clay County built momentum early and never let Barbourville take it away, recording a 25-11, 25-19, 25-16 victory in volleyball action.
The Lady Tigers dominated the opening set, cruising to a 25-11 win and establishing control of the match.
“We gained a lot of momentum the first set and built upon that throughout the game,” Clay County coach Kendall Deaton Culver said.
Clay County faced some challenges from the service line during the final two sets, but the Lady Tigers made up for it with their serve receive. They captured the second set 25-19 before finishing off the sweep with a 25-16 victory in the third.
“We struggled with serving in set 2 and set 3, but we found a way to control the ball on serve receive,” Culver said.
With tougher competition awaiting, Culver believes the straight-set victory was an important one for her team.
“This team needed this sweep to move forward in the tough competition ahead,” Culver said. “On to the next one.”
