WILLIAMSBURG — It was a memorable Friday for Williamsburg coach Jerry Herron and his Yellow Jackets.
On the same day Herron was named his district’s Coach of the Year, Williamsburg continued its postseason success with a hard-fought 26-14 victory over Hazard in the opening round of the KHSAA Class A football playoffs.
The win improved the Yellow Jackets to 7-3 and kept their postseason hopes alive while Hazard saw its season come to an end with a 2-9 record.
“Boys played hard,” Herron said. “Won a hard-fought physical game vs longtime rival Hazard. Defense got two huge stops late in the fourth quarter with interceptions that lead to a rushing touchdown by Lane Jeffries to seal the win.”
For Herron, the victory provided another reason to celebrate after receiving recognition for his leadership of the Williamsburg football program.
The Yellow Jackets entered postseason play looking to make another playoff run, and Friday’s 12-point victory showed they weren’t ready to call it a season.
