HARLAN — It was all South Laurel from start to finish Friday night.
Behind a dominant performance from Kenzie Williams, the Lady Cardinals rolled to a 14-0 shutout victory over Harlan County.
Williams did it both ways, delivering one of her most complete performances of the season.
In the pitcher’s circle, she tossed four hitless innings, striking out seven while allowing just two walks. At the plate, she dominated, going 3-for-5 with seven RBI to power the South Laurel (23-5) offense.
“We got a really great combined pitching effort tonight from Kenzie and Aubrie, only giving up one hit,” South Laurel’s coach Carly Mink said. “Offensively, we had some really good at bats all the way throughout the lineup and Lexi really got us going with a big three-run home run.”
After two scoreless innings to open the game, the Lady Cardinals broke through with four runs in the third and never looked back. South Laurel added four more in the fourth inning, one in the fifth inning, and capped the night with a five-run sixth inning to put the finishing touches on the run-rule win.
Lexi Messer added a big game as well, going 2-for-3 with a home run and three RBI while Bailey Frazier chipped in with two hits, two runs scored, and an RBI. Morgan Jackson and Skye Lawson each crossed the plate multiple times as South Laurel’s lineup produced 11 hits while garnering eight walks.
South Laurel’s pitching staff combined on a one-hitter with Aubrie Messer working two innings of relief to close it out.
