SOMERSET — North Laurel found itself playing from behind early and was unable to recover as Southwestern handed the Lady Jaguars a 4-0 loss on Monday.
“We got off to another bad start by letting the other team score twice in the first 10 minutes,” North Laurel coach Jason Welch said. “We finished the half well once we figured out our formation.”
After surrendering the two early goals, North Laurel settled in defensively and kept Southwestern from adding to its advantage for the remainder of the first half.
The Lady Jaguars faced similar problems after halftime, with Southwestern scoring twice off corner kicks to extend its advantage to 4-0.
“The second half also went about like the first,” Welch said. “We gave up two goals off corners that we couldn’t clear. Once our defense figured out the game plan, they played well.”
North Laurel did create opportunities to get on the scoreboard during the second half, particularly in transition, but the Lady Jaguars couldn’t convert their chances.
“We had a few opportunities in the second half off counters, but we just couldn’t find the back of the net,” Welch said.
