LONDON — South Laurel leaned on a dominant pitching performance from Kenzie Williams and timely hitting to shut out Corbin 8-0 on Thursday.
Williams was in complete control in the pitcher’s circle, tossing a complete-game two-hitter while striking out 16 and walking just one. The junior hurler kept Corbin off-balance all night, not allowing a run across seven innings.
“Good to get a district win tonight,” South Laurel coach Carly Mink said. “Kenzie once again gave us another strong performance in the circle tonight. Offensively, we did enough to have a couple of big innings. We also had some really good at bats in some key situations.”
South Laurel (11-3) broke things open in the third inning, scoring three runs to take control. The Lady Cardinals added two runs in the fifth inning and three more in the sixth inning to put the game away.
Bailey Frazier went 2-for-3 with a triple and two runs scored. Kenzie Williams added two hits and two RBI to help her own cause while Lexi Messer collected two hits, drove in a run, and added a home run.
Emmie Rice also added an RBI as South Laurel totaled eight hits on the night.
Corbin (3-9) struggled to at the plate against Williams, finishing with just two hits. Chloe Bays and Lydia King accounted for the Lady Redhounds’ only hits.
