Stewart tosses no-hitter as North Laurel blanks Harlan County

LONDON — North Laurel’s Colton Stewart was untouchable Monday night.

The North Laurel right-hander fired a complete-game no-hitter, striking out 10 and allowing just two walks to lead the Jaguars to a 4-0 win over Harlan County.

Stewart faced just 23 batters and was in command from the first pitch, keeping Harlan County off balance all night while recording one of the most dominant pitching performances of the season.

“It was a good win tonight,” North Laurel coach Darren McWhorter said. “Colton Stewart threw a seven inning, no hitter. Colton threw great tonight and we needed him to.  Ashton Napier had two hits, Eli Holt had one hit and two RBI. Other than that, we left 12 men on and had base bases loaded twice, we have to clean that up. We got a win and we will take it.”

North Laurel (4-5) broke through in the fourth inning, scoring all four of its runs to provide more than enough support behind Stewart’s gem.

Brayden Evans and Ashton Napier sparked the offense with Evans finishing with a hit and a run scored while Napier went 2-for-2 with a run scored and a double. Cooper Elza and Cam Hinkle also added hits while Eli Holt drove in two runs to highlight the Jaguars’ four-run inning.

Cameron Smith and Jude McWhorter each added hits while Colton Gilbert drove in a run as part of a balanced offensive effort.
