WILLIAMSBURG — Megan McKiddy was dominant in the pitcher’s circle while Whitley County delivered timely hits when it mattered most.
McKiddy struck out 10 and allowed just six hits in a complete-game shutout while Jaylyn Brown drove in two runs to lead Whitley County to a 3-0 win over Knox Central on Monday.
“Good win for us this evening,” Whitley County coach David Halcomb said. “It was a total team effort in every area of the game. Our pitching and defense was strong all night, with 10 strikeouts and seven error-free innings. I thought Knox Central played well, too. We hit the ball hard early, but was right at them. We were finally able to push some runs across late to seal the victory. Proud of our team.”
The Lady Colonels (4-6) broke through in the fifth inning, scoring the game’s first run before adding two insurance runs in the sixth inning, putting the game away.
Brown led the way at the plate with two hits and two RBI while PaytonHurst added a hit and an RBI. McKiddy helped her own cause with a hit and a run scored.
Madilyn Rains and Katelyn Shepherd each scored runs in the win.
