Wildcats hang tough, but can’t overcome Flinchum’s 49-point scoring effort

BUCKHORN — Marcus McKeehan’s Lynn Camp Wildcats hung tough in their battle with Lee County on Monday, but had no answer for Corey Flinchum.

Flinchum scored 49 points to lead Lee County to a 79-66 win over the Wildcats.

“We knew coming in Flinchum was going to be a force to be reckoned with,” McKeehan said. “He’s a scorer and all around smart player.”

Lynn Camp’s Landen Rose’s effort wasn’t overshadowed, though.

Rose scored a team-best 29 points while knocking down six 3-pointers — five of those came during the fourth quarter. Caleb Woods added 21 points while Eisen Mayo and Conner Mabe scored six points apiece, and Elijah Mayo added four points.

“Eisen Mayo has scored in double digits all weekend but got in foul trouble in the first half so he spent some significant minutes on the bench,” McKeehan said. “We came out in the second half after adjustments at the half and really battled back but couldn’t ever close the gap. These kids responded to the challenge after halftime and never quit fighting. That’s what we’re focusing on this season — continuing to fight and claw our way back when we’re facing a challenge.”

The Wildcats had a chance to cut into Lee County’s lead numerous times, but connected on only 3-of-10 free throw attempts.

“We’ve got to knock down our free throws,” McKeehan said. “At the end of the day, free throws can win ballgames and we’ve been struggling at the charity stripe so that’s got to be a major focus for us moving forward this season.”
