CORBIN — Bentley Hoskins recorded a first-half hat trick as Corbin erupted for five goals before halftime on its way to a convincing 7-1 victory over Garrard County.
Hoskins wasted little time putting the Redhounds in control. He opened the scoring with 34:06 remaining in the first half and struck again just over three minutes later to give Corbin a 2-0 advantage.
David Castro extended the lead to 3-0 with 29:08 remaining before Hoskins completed his hat trick less than three minutes later, pushing the Redhounds’ advantage to four goals.
Hays Steely joined the scoring with 14:51 remaining, giving Corbin a commanding 5-0 lead.
Garrard County managed to get on the scoreboard in the closing seconds of the half, sending Corbin into the break with a 5-1 advantage.
The Redhounds continued to find the net in the second half. Alex Campos scored with 26:31 remaining to make it 6-1 before Silas Mackey closed out the scoring with 22:40 left.
Despite the six-goal victory, Corbin coach Roger Taylor saw areas where his team can continue to improve.
“We showed flashes of the team I know we can be,” Taylor said. “But as the game wore on and our legs got tired, we regressed to some of our bad habits. We will keep improving but have a tough week ahead.”
