Lady Colonels Sweep Madison Central in Home Opener

WILLIAMSBURG — Whitley County set the tone early and never let Madison Central gain any momentum Thursday, rolling to a straight-set victory in its home opener.

The Lady Colonels captured the opening set, 25-15, before taking the second, 25-18. Whitley County then turned in its most dominant performance of the night, cruising to a 25-12 victory in the third set to complete the sweep.

The win evened Whitley County’s record at 1-1.

“This was a really good home opener for us tonight,” Whitley County coach David Halcomb said. “We knew coming in that Madison Central has a really good team. I was pleased with our team’s performance tonight. The girls had great energy from the start.

“There are still some areas we need to fine-tune, but overall I thought we played really well. I was proud of how good our freshmen and JV teams played as well, all three teams picked up wins.”

Halcomb was also pleased with the support the Lady Colonels received in their first home match of the season.

“We had a really good crowd, and I appreciate all who came out to support our girls,” Halcomb said. “They work so hard and are fun to watch.”

Whitley County will now turn its attention toward a road test at Wayne County on Tuesday.

“We look forward to heading over to Wayne County on Tuesday, where we have traditionally had a tough time winning,” Halcomb said. “I think our girls will be ready.”
