South Laurel Comes Up Short Against Cooper in Queen of the Bluegrass

LOUISVILLE — South Laurel saw its run slowed down Sunday, falling 42–32 to Cooper in Queen of the Bluegrass Tournament action.

The loss drops the Lady Cardinals to 7–2 on the season, and they will now play in the third-place game on Monday.

South Laurel battled throughout and was led by Skeeter Mabe, who had a strong performance controlling the offense while scoring 10 points. Ryleigh Bretz and Aubrey Bundy each added six points while Kenzie Fannin chipped in five points off the bench.

Despite the loss, South Laurel coach Tod Windlan pointed to the value of competing against elite competition.

“We played very well for 24 minutes, but when you play top teams, you must play for 32 minutes,” he said. “Games like this will help us tremendously down the road. Proud of our effort — we did not execute late and when we did our shots were not falling. Go Cards.”
