HINDMAN — North Laurel completed a clean sweep of the WYMT Mountain Classic on Saturday, as the Jaguars captured the boys’ championship with a 54-46 win over Knott Central, just hours after the Lady Jaguars claimed the girls’ title.
The win marked North Laurel’s fifth straight victory, improving the Jaguars to 5-1 on the season.
“We are really happy to get the win tonight,” North Laurel coach Nate Valentine said. “The WYMT Classic is one of the most-prestigious tournaments in the state and We are grateful for the opportunity this week. We have a lot to continue to work on but I’m really proud of our effort.”
North Laurel trailed 18-15 after the first quarter but went into halftime with a 30-27 lead behind eight first-half points from Reece Davidson.
Knott Central regained the edge late, taking a 39-38 lead into the fourth quarter, but Davidson took over down the stretch.
Davidson scored nine of North Laurel’s 16 fourth-quarter points, leading the Jaguars on to rally over the final eight minutes. He finished with a game-high 23 points.
Jordan Rawlings added nine points while knocking down three 3-pointers. Corey Cunagin also scored nine points, Kaiden Allen chipped in eight, Cam Anderson scored three, and RJ Noble added two points to round out the scoring.
