South Laurel Cruises in Lisa Collins Classic Behind Bretz Double-Double

LONDON — The South Laurel Lady Cardinals put together another dominant performance Friday night, rolling past Letcher Central 77-29 during the Lisa Collins Classic.

South Laurel set the tone early, knocking down five 3-pointers in the opening quarter to surge out to a 35-8 lead.

The Lady Cardinals never let up, carrying a commanding 57-14 advantage into halftime and leading 73-21 by the end of the third quarter.

Ryleigh Bretz delivered a standout performance, posting a double-double with 14 points and 12 rebounds while going 6-of-7 from the free-throw line. Bretz was named Player of the Game.

Balanced scoring once again fueled South Laurel’s success, as Callie Jones scored 14 points, Maci Messer added 12, Aubrey Bundy finished with 11, Kenzie Fannin chipped in nine, Emma Adams scored seven, and Skeeter Mabe added six.

“Lady Cards came out with a purpose and played very well for the second straight night,” South Laurel coach Tod Windlan said. “We wanted to play well for the Lisa Collins family and friends as Lisa was the most decorated player to ever play in Laurel County.

“Our full court pressure forced them into live ball turnovers which resulted into some easy transition points for us,” Windlan added. “I would have to say we are the only team in Kentucky with four players averaging double figures. That is what makes this group so special and fun to coach.”
