Balanced Attack Powers Whitley County to 31-Point Victory

WILLIAMSBURG — Whitley County wasted no time seizing control Thursday, storming out to a 25-6 first-quarter lead and never looking back on its way to a 66–35 win over Middlesboro.

The Colonels’ defensive pressure set the tone early, holding the Yellow Jackets to just 17 points by halftime while building a commanding 48–17 advantage.

By the end of the third quarter, Whitley County’s lead stretched to 63–30 as the starters’ early work allowed the bench to contribute meaningful minutes.

Balanced scoring powered the win, with four Colonels reaching double figures. Tootie Mahan led the way with 22 points, followed by Riley Fuson with 11. Levi Jackson and Henry Bowling added 10 points each as Whitley County clicked on both ends of the floor.

Middlesboro was led by Joseph Killian, who scored 12 points.

After the game, Whitley County coach Eric Swords praised his team’s energy and execution.

“Thought our guys came out with energy on both ends,” Whitley County coach Eric Swords said. “Effort was great in the first half. When we play with that effort defensively we are gonna be hard to beat.

“Offensively, I thought we shared the ball well,” he added. “We had four in double figures and one with eight and a majority of that was in the first half. We were able to get a lot of our younger kids some minutes in the 2nd half so it was a great night all around. Loved the crowd our guys need that every game. Go Colonels.”
