MANCHESTER — Clay County continued its early-season offensive dominance Thursday with an 87-49 victory over Harlan, pushing the Tigers to 2-0 while scoring 169 total points during their first two contests. Harlan drops to 0-2 with the loss.
The Tigers controlled the game from start to finish, leading 21-13 after the first quarter, 39-22 at halftime, and 60-34 entering the fourth. Eleven Clay County players reached the scoring column as the Tigers knocked down nine 3-pointers.
Adon Grubb paced Clay County with 22 points while shooting an impressive 8-of-9 at the free-throw line. Brody Hooker added 11 points and connected on three 3-pointers, while Jay Nicholson scored 10. Maxton Gray chipped in nine points with two 3-pointers.
Harlan was led by Dylan Cox and Ethan Huff, who each finished with 10 points.
Clay County coach Michael Jones said his team didn’t look quite as sharp as it did during Tuesday’s season opener.
“Not sure if first home game played a factor, the time change on the game, or what but we wasn’t as mentally sharp tonight as we were Tuesday,” Jones said. “A ton of credit to Harlan and Coach Akal, they competed the entire game, and we had several stretches where we did not.”
