CORBIN — After watching his team to clean things up on both ends of the court, Lynn Camp coach Marcus McKeehan was pleased with the way his team accepted the challenge and responded by defeating Res Bird on Thursday, 61-45.
The Wildcats (1-1) received an 18-point scoring effort from Conner Mabe while Eli Mayo added 13 points, and Landen Rose followed with an 11-point scoring effort.
“We challenged our kids after Monday’s game to focus on rebounding and eliminating turnovers,” McKeehan said. “The way they responded is exactly what any coach would want. We were in foul trouble all night but they never lost their composure.
“They played team basketball and it paid off,” he added. “When Red Bird would make a run, our kids responded and played under control. Hats off to Coach Napier & his Cardinals. They never backed down and played until the final buzzer.”
Lynn Camp led 17-10 at the end of the first quarter and 31-23 at halftime before pulling away in the second half, outscoring Red Bird, 30-22, in the second half.
Xavier Roark led the Cardinals with 15 points while Ashton Lewis finished with 12 points.
“We had to go deep on our bench tonight,” McKeehan said. “DJ Wren, Shawn Reyes, and Cason Mills were major players even though stats don’t show it.”
Lynn Camp will be back in action Saturday on the road against Trinity Christian while Red Bird will face-off against Jackson County on Saturday.
