CORBIN — The Janet Jones era at Lynn Camp High School got off to an impressive start Monday as the Lady Wildcats cruised to a dominant 59-11 victory over Jackson City.
Despite being without last season’s leading scorer and top rebounder, Lauren Partin, Lynn Camp had little trouble controlling the game on both ends of the floor.
The win marks the third consecutive season the Lady Wildcats have opened with a victory.
“I thought we had a great first game,” Jones said. “I asked three things out of them before the game — one, have confidence, two, don’t quit, and three, play hard all game. Everyone played tonight and every kid done all three things that I asked. I am so happy for them. I want them to get used to the winning feeling.”
Lynn Camp wasted no time asserting itself, racing out to a 22-4 lead after the first quarter. Madison Weymers fueled the early surge, scoring seven of her 10 points in the opening frame.
Destiny Chancellor helped keep the momentum rolling, adding six of her nine points before halftime as the Lady Wildcats built a commanding 43-5 advantage at the break.
Balanced scoring continued to be the theme for Jones’ squad.
Jayden Petrey and Aubrey Hollin each tallied eight points, while Bella Fox added seven. Julie Moore chipped in six points, and Bree Morgan finished with three. Jalinda Lawrence, Lily Henize, and Reagan Knickles contributed two points apiece to round out the scoring.
Lynn Camp will return to action Saturday with a 3 p.m. home matchup against Ligon Cogo.
