Defense, Dunks, and a Dominant Debut: Generals Take Season Opener

PIPPA PASSES — A new era for Jackson County basketball began with a statement win.

The Generals opened their 2025-26 season in dominant fashion Monday, rolling past June Buchanan, 71-28, to give first-year head coach Parker Stewart his first victory at the helm.

Jackson County showcased balanced scoring and suffocating defense, pulling away early and never looking back.

Wyatt Gray led the charge with 13 points, followed by Tyler Sandlin’s 12. Brennon Combs added nine, Ashton Clemons and Braylon Combs each scored eight, Elijah Thomas chipped in seven, Joona Holm and Tansen Truett contributed five apiece, and Braxton Coyle rounded out the scoring with four.

Stewart said he was pleased to see his young squad begin the season on the right foot.

“We got our first win tonight,” Jackson County coach Parker Stewart said. “Hopefully, it builds some momentum going into the PRTC Classic this weekend. I thought the first half tonight was sluggish, maybe the two-hour bus ride had some effect, but Wyatt Gray got us going with two explosive dunks and we were able to hold them to only nine scored points in the second half. We are going to rely on our defense this year so that was good to see the kids respond in the second half & sit down and guard.”
