Chasing Greatness: Luka Lopez’s Tireless Work Ethic Lifts Him to the Top 

CORBIN — Corbin’s Luka Lopez continues his impressing journey in the sport of tennis, and will participate in one of the most prestigious junior tennis tournaments in the country this month.

Lopez is currently ranked No. 1 in the state at the 12U Singles Level, and 25th in the Nation.

“I am very excited and proud of my current ranking,” Lopez said. “I have worked extremely hard at every practice and played lots of tournaments to improve my game and ranking in the nation.  Reaching No. 1 in the state was one of my first goals, also I am currently ranked third in the southern rankings. 

“My national ranking shows be moving up after an incredible weekend in New York at a national level 1 tournament,” he added. “I should be ranking top 15 in the nation now.”

Lopez said he’s happy to see his hard work paying off.

“I am practicing six days a week and playing tournaments year around  all over the nation — from Florida, California, Michigan, Illinois, New York,” he said. “I just competed in the indoors National Level 1 tournament in Flushing Meadows, New York “ To be able to play on the same courts that tennis legends have played it was a dream come true.”

Next up is a trip to Miami as Lopez will be participating in a National Level 2 Tiurnament (Orange Bowl).

“It is an international tournament with players from all over the world,” he said. “This will be my first international tournament. I am super excited to meet and play against new players. 

“Meeting new players from all over the world is super excited,” he added. “I also appreciate the work that my coach/dad puts with me everyday. He has always trusted my game and development to become a professional tennis player someday.”
