LONDON — The South Laurel girls’ golf team continued to impress Tuesday evening as Alyssa Siler shot a 75 that was good enough for a fourth-place tie at the Madison Central Invitational.
The Lady Cardinals shot a 296 as a team while golfers Lilly Barton (96), Morgan Jackson (104), Lindsey House (124), Audrey Likins (121), and Grier Allen (134) each turned in stellar efforts.
“Alyssa was coming off a third-place finish last week at the Wayne County Invitational with a score of 81,” South Laurel coach Rusty Siler said. “She shot a 75 today, started out slow with three bogeys on the first five holes, but pulled it together.
Her and Lilly Barton are the only two returning varsity players,” he added. “Lilly shot a 96. She had some great approach shots and kept a positive attitude. She is a very hard worker and will continue to work hard to improve.
“Morgan Jackson is returning to golf she played in sixth and seventh grade,” Siler added. “She’s a three-sport athlete and is getting better every day shooting a 104 today. Assistant coach Branden Grubb said Morgan is going to be a huge help come region time, she is smart and athletic.”
Siler also is impressed with the play of Audrey Likins, Lindsey House, and Grier Allen.
“Audrey Likins is also a newcomer. This is her second 18-hole tournament,” he said. “She is catching on very quick, and she’s standout softball player. Come September, she will be an asset for the region tournament.
“Lindsey House is in her third year, and she has worked in the office season to get better,” Siler added. “She has improved tremendously and I’m excited for see how she helps this year.
“Grier Allen is going to be a freshman, and she played as an eighth grader but only got to play in a few nine hole matches,” he continued. “She is still learning the game but is improving daily. We have competed for a few years with Alyssa and Lilly in the region, and we are excited to have a team for the first time in several years and see how we may do as a team this year.”
