WILLIAMSBURG — Whitley County put together one of its most complete performances of the season, using three different goal scorers and a strong defensive effort to secure a 3-0 victory.
The Colonels came out attacking and broke through early when Tootie Mahan finished a through ball from Tucker Hale to give Whitley County the lead.
“We came out hot and had early chances,” Whitley County coach Michael Branham said. “Early in the first half, Tootie Mahan scored off a Tucker Hale through ball.”
Whitley County added to its advantage when Wesley McLaughlin connected on a volley following a Brayden Hale corner, sending the Colonels into halftime with a 2-0 lead.
“We added another goal when Wesley McLaughlin had a nice volley in off a corner from Brayden Hale,” Branham said. “Up 2-0 at half, we made sure to focus on the second half, which has been a weakness of ours this season.”
The Colonels didn’t allow that trend to continue. Tucker Hale added Whitley County’s third goal, with Brayden Hale recording his second assist of the match. Tucker Hale finished with a goal and an assist.
“We finally put together a full 80 minutes,” Branham said. “The defense played well tonight and Clyde Johnson made some key saves and got his third shutout of the season.”
With Mahan, McLaughlin and Tucker Hale providing the goals, Brayden Hale contributing two assists and Johnson securing the clean sheet, Branham was pleased with the all-around performance.
“Overall, proud of the boys and hoping to keep this momentum,” he said.
