LONDON — South Laurel remained composed in three tightly contested sets Thursday, defeating Knox Central 25-22, 25-21, 26-24 in volleyball action.
The Lady Cardinals found themselves trailing by several points in each set but consistently responded, overcoming the deficits to complete the 3-0 sweep against the Lady Panthers.
“Great team win tonight against a really good opponent,” South Laurel coach Billy Ball said. “The girls had really good poise tonight.”
South Laurel battled back to capture the opening set 25-22 before following with another comeback in the second, winning 25-21 to take control of the match.
“We fell behind each set three to four points, but the girls were unfazed,” Ball said.
Knox Central made another strong push in the third and had an opportunity to extend the match, but South Laurel again responded when it mattered. The Lady Cardinals eventually prevailed 26-24 to finish the sweep.
For Ball, South Laurel’s defensive play and effort proved to be the deciding factors in a match where each set required the Lady Cardinals to battle from behind.
“Our defense and effort was there all night, and that was probably the difference in the game,” Ball said.
