Knox Central closes regular season with impressive win over Williamsburg, turns attention to postseason

KNOX CENTRAL 49, WILLIAMSBURG 22

BARBOURVILLE — Knox Central closed out its regular-season schedule in impressive fashion Friday night, handing Williamsburg a 49-22 loss while giving its seniors a memorable victory in their final regular-season home game.

Knox Central coach Wayne Mills praised his team’s determination while also crediting the Yellow Jackets for their effort.

“Hats off to Williamsburg they played hard and came on here to win the game. We had few starters out and had to play some younger kids with less experience. Proud of our fighting thru adversity. Great to finish the season 7-3 . Good way to honor our seniors with the win. Every body 0-0 now and new season starts.”

The victory provided Knox Central with a positive finish to its regular-season schedule as the Panthers now turn their attention to the KHSAA Class 3A playoffs.

Knox Central will host Letcher County Central (5-5) next Friday in opening-round action.

Meanwhile, Williamsburg (6-3) will also begin postseason play at home next Friday when the Yellow Jackets welcome Hazard (2-8).

Both teams will look to put their regular-season results behind them as they begin their postseason journeys.

CLAY COUNTY 49, LYNN CAMP 12

MANCHESTER — Clay County continued its late-season momentum Friday night, closing out regular-season play with a convincing 49-12 victory over Lynn Camp.

The Tigers improved to 5-5 with the win, reaching the .500 mark and carrying momentum into next week’s KHSAA Class 3A playoffs.

Clay County’s victory marked another positive step for a program that secured its postseason berth with a 43-28 win over Bell County the previous week.

The Tigers have now won back-to-back games heading into postseason play and will look to continue that momentum when they travel to face Estill County next Friday in the opening round of the Class 3A playoffs.

For Lynn Camp, the loss dropped the Wildcats to 1-9 as they closed out their regular-season schedule.

Despite the setback, Lynn Camp will have an opportunity to extend its season next Friday when the Wildcats travel to face Middlesboro (9-1) in the opening round of the KHSAA Class A playoffs.

The matchup will be a rematch of the teams’ Sept. 15 meeting, which Middlesboro won 47-6.
