MIDDLESBORO — Middlesboro’s bid for an undefeated regular season came to an end Friday night as the Yellow Jackets suffered a 31-0 loss to Sayre in their regular-season finale.
The loss snapped Middlesboro’s nine-game winning streak and dropped the Yellow Jackets to 9-1 heading into postseason play.
Despite the setback, Middlesboro enters the KHSAA Class A playoffs with plenty to build on after putting together an impressive regular season that saw the Yellow Jackets win nine consecutive games before Friday’s defeat.
Middlesboro will now shift its attention to next Friday’s opening-round playoff matchup against Lynn Camp (1-9).
The contest will mark the second meeting between the two teams this season.
Middlesboro dominated the first matchup on Sept. 15, cruising to a 47-6 victory over the Wildcats.
