SOMERSET — Reilly Stuber recorded a hat trick as North Laurel turned in a dominant performance, rolling to a 7-0 victory over Southwestern in boys soccer action.
The Jaguars took control early, scoring four times in the opening half while controlling possession and consistently creating opportunities in the attacking third.
“We came out tonight and really played well for the first 20 to 25 minutes,” North Laurel coach David Broyles said. “We controlled possession and created several scoring opportunities.”
North Laurel opened the scoring when Zach Jacobs delivered a corner that Gavin Martin put into the back of the net. Stuber added a breakaway goal a couple of minutes later before Cam Anderson converted a penalty kick. Peyton McPhetridge then finished a cross from Braylon Bishop to send the Jaguars into halftime with a 4-0 advantage.
“We capitalized early on a corner from Zach Jacobs that Gavin Martin put in the back of the net,” Broyles said. “Reilly Stuber added a breakaway goal a couple minutes later, Cam Anderson added a PK, and Peyton McPhetridge netted a cross from Braylon Bishop to get to the halftime score of 4-0.”
After a slower start to the second half, North Laurel quickly found its offense again. Jacobs assisted Stuber for his second goal, Malik Turner set up Anderson for his second of the night, and Tucker Ebersole assisted Stuber on the goal that completed his hat trick and made the final score 7-0.
“We opened the second half a little sluggish, but added three more goals with Zach Jacobs assisting Reilly Stuber, Malik Turner assisting Cam Anderson, and Tucker Ebersole assisting Reilly to get the final 7-0,” Broyles said.
The Jaguars’ big lead also allowed Broyles to give some of his younger and less-experienced players valuable varsity minutes.
“I felt as a team we played well and I was able to get some kids in that don’t normally get a lot of varsity time,” Broyles said. “Aidyn Abner also finished with a clean sheet, making four saves.”
