WILLIAMSBURG — Reece Hatcher threw three touchdown passes while Williamsburg’s defense returned two interceptions for touchdowns as the Yellow Jackets rolled past Paris, 44-16, Friday night.
“Good win for us against an athletic team,” Williamsburg coach Jerry Herron said. “We never let our foot off the gas once we jumped on them. Our kids executed well tonight.”
Williamsburg wasted little time taking control, scoring 20 points during the first quarter before stretching its advantage to 44-0 by halftime and improving to 2-0 on the season.
Eli Meadors started the scoring with a 1-yard touchdown run with 8:38 remaining in the opening quarter. The successful two-point conversion gave Williamsburg an 8-0 advantage.
Only 28 seconds later, Hatcher connected with Chase Meddles for a touchdown. The conversion failed, leaving the Yellow Jackets ahead 14-0.
Hatcher struck again with 4:30 remaining in the first, finding Lane Jeffries for a 5-yard touchdown that increased Williamsburg’s lead to 20-0.
The Yellow Jackets’ defense then joined the scoring.
Trenton Cornett intercepted a Paris pass and returned it 96 yards for a touchdown early in the second quarter. Williamsburg added the two-point conversion to stretch its advantage to 28-0.
Hatcher and Jeffries connected for the second time with 6:28 remaining in the half, this time on a 7-yard touchdown pass. Another successful two-point conversion pushed the lead to 36-0 and brought on a running clock.
Williamsburg wasn’t finished.
Noah Jones added the Yellow Jackets’ second pick-six before halftime, and the ensuing two-point conversion sent Williamsburg into the locker room with a commanding 44-0 advantage.
Paris scored 16 unanswered points during the second half, but the outcome had already been decided as Williamsburg finished off the 44-16 victory.
The win moves the Yellow Jackets to 2-0 after opening the season with a 44-6 victory over Leslie County.
