LONDON — North Laurel picked up an important district victory Friday night, using big plays from Bryson Nantz, Cam Anderson and Jude McWhorter to defeat Southwestern 38-12.
The Jaguars improved to 3-3 on the season.
“Super-proud of our guys tonight,” North Laurel coach Steven Nelson said “Came out against a tough district opponent and we played our style and kept it really balanced. I think we played a really complete game and ran the ball and threw it well all night. Celebrate for the night and get ready for another big district game next week. Go Jags.”
Anderson opened the scoring with a field goal to give North Laurel a 3-0 lead in the first quarter. McWhorter then connected with Anderson on a 45-yard touchdown pass to push the advantage to 10-0.
Southwestern answered with a touchdown to cut the lead to 10-6, but North Laurel responded again in the second quarter. McWhorter found Anderson for a 25-yard touchdown pass, extending the Jaguars’ lead to 17-6.
Nantz then broke loose for a 56-yard touchdown run, making it 24-6. Southwestern scored again before halftime to trim the margin to 24-12.
North Laurel pulled away after the break. Nantz scored his second touchdown of the night on a 28-yard run in the third quarter, giving the Jaguars a 31-12 lead.
McWhorter capped the scoring with a one-yard touchdown run in the fourth quarter to produce the 38-12 final.
