LONDON — South Laurel picked up its first district victory of the season with a hard-fought straight-set win over Williamsburg.
The Lady Cardinals were tested throughout the opening two sets, edging Williamsburg 25-23 and 25-22 before taking control in the third set for a 25-15 victory to complete the sweep.
South Laurel coach Billy Ball credited his team for rising to the challenge against a strong Williamsburg squad.
“Proud of the girls tonight for getting us our first district win of the season,” he said. “We knew it was going to take a great effort. Williamsburg is a very good team and well-coached. Williamsburg played really hard defensively, but our offense was able to answer and ultimately take control of the game. Go Cards.”
