LONDON — South Laurel snapped North Laurel’s 16-game winning streak Saturday afternoon, rolling to a 10-0 victory over the Lady Jaguars in five innings.
The Lady Cardinals improved to 28-5 overall and extended their own winning streak to seven games while North Laurel fell to 26-3.
South Laurel’s offense struck early and never slowed down, scoring two runs in the first inning before breaking the game open with a six-run fifth inning.
“We were able to get two runs in the top of the 1st that set the tone for our offense,” South Laurel coach Carly Mink said. “Kenzie, Kiley, and Lexi all had big swings. We had quality at bats throughout the whole lineup.
“Aubrie Messer gave us a great effort in the circle, throwing a no-hitter,” she added. “She worked ahead in counts and trusted her defense. Can’t say enough about her effort today and how good she was.”
The Lady Cardinals finished with 11 hits, including home runs from Kiley Dunaway, Kenzie Williams and Lexi Messer.
Dunaway led the way at the plate, going 2-for-3 with two runs scored and two RBI. Bailey Frazier added two hits and an RBI, while Morgan Jackson and Messer each drove in two runs.
Aubrie Messer tossed a no-hitter for South Laurel, holding North Laurel hitless over five innings while striking out four.
South Laurel also received hits from Messer, Emmie Rice, Skye Lawson and Ryleigh Bretz as the Lady Cardinals continued their late-season surge heading toward postseason play.
