LONDON — Kenzie Williams turned in a historic performance Friday night, striking out 13 batters while setting South Laurel’s single-season school record for strikeouts in a 9-0 win over Bryan Station.
Williams now has 242 strikeouts this season as the Lady Cardinals improved to 27-5 on the year.
“We were able to put together some really quality at bats and got on the board early with three in bottom of the first,” South Laurel coach Kenzie Williams said. “Ryleigh and Kenzie had two big swings that opened the game up for us. Kenzie gave us another great effort in the circle, allowing only one hit, and 2 baserunners against a tough Bryan Station team.”
The junior ace was dominant from the opening inning, tossing a one-hit shutout with no walks while also helping herself offensively.
Williams finished 3-for-3 at the plate with a triple and four RBIs. Ryleigh Bretz added a home run and two RBIs while Bailey Frazier scored twice and collected two hits. Lexi Messer also had a two-hit night for South Laurel.
The Lady Cardinals jumped out early with three runs in the first inning before adding three more in the third to take control.
