Williams powers South Laurel past Williamsburg; Messer tosses perfect game in district rout

LONDON — Kenzie Williams put on a show at the plate, and Aubrie Messer was untouchable in the pitcher’s circle.

Williams blasted two home runs, drove in four runs and scored three times while Messer fired a perfect game with nine strikeouts as South Laurel (9-3) rolled past Williamsburg (2-4) 15-0 in a 50th District matchup Monday.

Messer needed just three innings to complete the rare feat, retiring all nine batters she faced without allowing a baserunner while striking out every Williamsburg hitter.

South Laurel’s offense wasted no time setting the tone, erupting for six runs in the first inning before adding nine more in the second to put the game out of reach.

Williams led the charge with a dominant night at the plate, collecting two hits, both home runs, and accounting for four RBI. Morgan Jackson added a hit, two runs and an RBI while Emmie Rice had a hit, scored twice and drove in a run.

Kiley Dunaway chipped in two hits and two RBI and Lexi Messer and Audrey Likins each scored twice while Bailey Frazier drove in a run and scored once as the Lady Cardinals piled up 10 hits and 15 runs in just two innings of offense.

South Laurel also showed patience at the plate, drawing seven walks and applying constant pressure throughout the game.
