HILLIARD, OH. — Whitley County had early control, but one big inning flipped everything.
Clinton-Massie used a five-run fourth inning to rally past the Lady Colonels, handing Whitley County a 6-3 loss on Monday.
Whitley County (2-3) jumped out early, scoring one run in the first before adding two more in the third to take a 3-0 lead.
But the momentum shifted quickly.
Clinton-Massie broke through in the fourth, scoring five runs in the inning while turning a three-run deficit into a 5-3 advantage it wouldn’t give back.
The Falcons added an insurance run in the fifth to secure the win.
“We started out with great energy,” Whitley County assistant coach Lindsey Shope said. “Had some great quality at bats and good hits. We got up 3-0 and started to get too comfortable. We just have to learn to keep up the energy and reduce mistakes. Proud of the way they came out and we will learn from today and be better tomorrow.”
Despite the loss, Whitley County produced at the plate, finishing with eight hits but managed to only push across three runs.
Megan McKiddy led the way, going 3-for-4 with two RBI, including a triple to spark the offense. Payton Hurst provided a home run and an RBI, while also scoring a run.
Mia Prewitt collected two hits, and a run scored while Madilyn Rains had a hit and run scored, and Katelyn Shepherd added a hit and two walks.
In the pitcher’s circle, McKiddy went the distance, allowing six runs (three earned) on six hits while striking out two.
