WILLIAMSBURG — Whitley County wasted little time taking control Tuesday, rolling past Williamsburg 84–20 in its 50th District opener.
The Colonels improved to 13–4 on the season and 1–0 in district play, while Williamsburg fell to 1–13 overall and 0–1 against district opponents.
“Great win for our guys,” Whitley County coach Eric Swords said. “Always good to get a district win. Proud of our guys for just going in and taking care of business. We have a big district game on Friday at home vs South, they are coming off a district loss so we know we will take their best shot. We need everyone to come out and get behind us. Go Colonels.”
Whitley County jumped out to a commanding 33–4 lead after the first quarter behind a dominant opening stretch from Tootie Mahan, who scored 16 points in the period. Dee Parker knocked down two three-pointers and added six points, while Garrett Sharp chipped in three as the Colonels built early separation.
Whitley County stretched the margin to 66–8 at halftime and put the game away.
Mahan led the Colonels with 26 points in the win. Hunter Bowling added 15 points while Parker finished with nine.
Williamsburg was led by Lane Jeffries with eight points. Trenton Cornett added five points for the Yellow Jackets in the loss.
