LONDON — Whitley County erased a 14-point deficit and knocked down timely shots from beyond the arc to earn a 77-74 win over Madison Southern on Saturday at the Raymond Reed Classic.
The Colonels found themselves in an early hole after Madison Southern caught fire from three-point range in the opening quarter. Whitley County trailed by as many as 14 points before mounting a comeback behind hot shooting of its own.
Whitley County finished the game shooting 8-of-11 from three-point range and used that efficiency to swing the momentum in its favor.
Tootie Mahan led the Colonels with 23 points and was nearly perfect at the free-throw line, knocking down 9-of-10 attempts. Henry Bowling added 15 points while Garrett Sharp chipped in 12 to give Whitley County three players in double figures.
The Colonels’ comeback win improved their record to 12-4 on the season.
“Good bounce back win for our guys,” he said. “We came out in the first quarter and they hit 8-of-11 from 3. We got down big, trailing by 14. Our guys showed a lot of heart and determination to battle back. Now we can concentrate off district play starting next week. Go Colonels.”
