WILLIAMSBURG — Whitley County continued its strong run with a 77-57 victory over Green Valley Christian in the BSN Borderline Classic, improving the Colonels to 5-2 on the season.
The Colonels faced an early test, trailing 17-16 at the end of the first quarter, but settled in during the second period. Whitley County took a 28-24 lead into halftime as Tootie Mahan scored six of his points in the quarter to help swing momentum.
Whitley County pulled away after the break, extending its advantage to 51-39 entering the fourth quarter before closing out the win.
“Good win to start off the Borderline Classic for our guys,” Whitley County coach Eric Swords said. “We were able to sit Riley and Dee who have been battling nagging injuries. We got off to a rough start in the first half but was able to get going a little bit in the 2nd half. We will need to be much better going forward.”
Mahan led the way with 24 points, pouring in 12 during the third quarter. Henry Bowling followed with 13 points, while Levi Jackson added 11 as the Colonels used a balanced effort to secure the Borderline Classic win.
