LONDON — The Corbin Lady Redhounds closed the game with authority, outscoring Cumberland County 26-10 in the fourth quarter to secure an 83-72 victory.
Corbin led 25-19 at the end of the first quarter but trailed 42-37 at halftime after Cumberland County surged in the second. The Lady Redhounds continued to battle in the third quarter but entered the final period down 62-57 before flipping the momentum with a dominant closing stretch.
“The best way I can describe today’s game is that it was very unique,” Corbin coach Isaac Wilson said. “Super-proud of our team as they continue to grind and never folded as we had many opportunities during that game to let it get ugly. We kept fighting even when things were not going great and that is a characteristic of a good basketball team.
“We are a long way from where I would like to be but I feel we have a very high ceiling and plenty of room to show improvement,” he added. “At the end of the day, we don’t win a basketball game like today without having a team mindset and being focused on just one thing and that thing being winning. Super proud of everyone who played today and excited to take the floor with them again on Monday at Knox Central.”
Addy Wilson led Corbin with 24 points, scoring nine in the fourth quarter as the Lady Redhounds found their rhythm offensively. Eighth grader Lynlee Pietrowski provided a spark late, knocking down five of her 10 points in the final quarter, while Aubree Clemens added five of her 18 points during the decisive run. Lydia King contributed all five of her points in the fourth quarter as Corbin pulled away.
The Lady Redhounds were steady at the free-throw line down the stretch, hitting 7-of-10 attempts in the fourth quarter. Pietrowski was perfect at the stripe, going 3-for-3 as Corbin sealed the win.
