LONDON — A 32-point third quarter by South Laurel played a big role in the Cardinals’ 82-64 win over McCreary Central on Saturday.
Jeff Davis’ squad showed no signs of fatigue after playing their second game in a row, as 10 different players scored in the 18-point victory.
“We started out a little slow with not a lot of energy,” Davis said. “This was a good test for us to see how our mental toughness would be with a back to back and we didn’t answer the bell at first. We played a little better in the second quarter and had a good third. We have a long ways to go but really like how our guys are playing together. I like our team.”
South Laurel trailed 19-16 at the end of the first quarter, but outscored the Raiders, 23-14, in the second quarter to take a 39-33 edge into the locker room at halftime.
The Cardinals remained red-hot in the third quarter as eight different players scored in the period — Brayden Cassidy scored six points while Kayden Taylor, Isaiah Robinson, and Brayden Laymon each scored five points apiece.
South Laurel was led in scoring by Kaiden McQueen, who finished with 16 points while Brendon Murphy added 13 points. Laymon chipped in 12 points while Brayden Cassidy added 11 points.
