SOMERSET — The Williamsburg Lady Yellow Jackets showed promising strides Tuesday night suffering a close 58-54 road loss to Somerset Christian.
Williamsburg came out strong, leading 18-14 after the first quarter and taking a 34-29 advantage into halftime. Somerset Christian battled back in the third, outscoring the Lady Jackets to take a 46-43 lead heading into the final period. Williamsburg continued to fight, but the late push wasn’t enough to reclaim the lead.
After the game, coach Melissia Douglas emphasized the progress she sees in her team, praising both her veterans and newcomers.
“A four-point loss, but a step forward,” Williamsburg coach Melissia Douglas said after her team’s hard-fought loss to Somerset Christian. “Ellie Breeding and Braylee Evans dropping 18 each, Abby Moses adding 9, and our new players stepping up, this team is growing.
“This is a learning step to develop more players to put some points on the board,” she added. “I’m very pleased with their effort, and I know that they will only get stronger from here with a positive mindset.”
