GEORGETOWN — Corbin wrapped up regular season play in dominant fashion Friday night, rolling past Great Crossing, 47-7, to secure its fourth consecutive win heading into the postseason.
The Redhounds improved to 7-3 and will host Russell County next week in the opening round of the KHSAA Class 4A Playoffs.
Corbin came out fast and never looked back.
Mason Salmons connected with Cam Estep on a 34-yard touchdown strike to open the scoring, and the Redhounds followed with back-to-back rushing scores — a 3-yard run by Trey Person and a 3-yard run by Cole Stevens — to build a 20-0 advantage.
Stevens added another score late in the second quarter, extending Corbin’s lead to 27-0 at halftime.
The Redhounds continued to pour it on in the third quarter. Clay Akins broke loose for a 14-yard touchdown run, and Salmons and Estep hooked up again, this time from 34 yards out, to push the lead to 40-0.
Great Crossing finally got on the board late in the period, but Corbin answered immediately as Akins delivered the highlight of the night — an 80-yard touchdown run as the clock expired in the third quarter to cap the scoring.
Corbin’s defense controlled the game from start to finish, limiting Great Crossing’s offense and allowing the Redhound ground game to take over.
