Jaguars score 41 unanswered points during 34-point rout of Wayne County

LONDON — The one-two punch of Cooper Robinson and Cole McWhorter combined with a dominating effort from the offensive line and another stingy defensive effort proved too much for Wayne County to handle on Thursday.

North Laurel improved to 8-2 after scoring 41 unanswered points while defeating the Cardinals, 41-7, during the process.

Robinson ran for more than 100 yards for the second consecutive game, turning in touchdown runs of 25, 1, 17, and 45 yards while McWhorter, who also ran for more than 100 yards, had touchdown runs of 30, and 38 yards.

“We had a great game to end the season,” North Laurel coach Steve Nelson said. “We came out a little slow and didn’t get a lot of practice time this week, but we finished the game strong and were able to run the ball great all night.

“I’m glad we were able to come out and get a win on senior night and the guys up front played great all night,” he added. “Now it’s time to focus on the playoffs and get focused for Madison Southern. Go Jags.”

North Laurel fell behind 7-0 early in the game before Robinson’s 25-yard touchdown run and McWhorter’s 30-yard score gave the Jaguars a 14-7 edge at halftime.

The Jaguars dominated in the second half, outscoring Wayne County, 27-0, to record the win.

North Laurel will host Madison Southern during first round action of the Class 5A playoffs next Friday at 7:30 p.m.
