Red-hot Redhounds move one step closer to district title

CORBIN — Corbin continued its dominance over Whitley County on Friday, rolling to a 49-6 win to improve to 5-3 on the season and 2-0 in district play.

The victory also pushed the Redhounds’ to 26-0 over the Colonels, who fell to 1-7.

Corbin wasted no time setting the tone early, scoring on a 2-yard run by Cole Stevens just 1:20 into the game. Mason Salmons then connected with Clay Akins on a 2-yard touchdown pass to make it 14-0.

Stevens added his second rushing touchdown of the night, a 9-yard score followed by a successful two-point conversion, extending the lead to 22-0 after one quarter.

The Redhounds continued to pile on in the second quarter. Cam Estep scored on a 9-yard run before hauling in a 31-yard touchdown pass from Salmons.

Zach Thomas capped off the first-half barrage with a 31-yard touchdown catch as time expired, sending Corbin into halftime with a commanding 43-0 lead.

Corbin added one more score in the third quarter on a 20-yard touchdown run by Trey Person, pushing the advantage to 49-0.

Whitley County avoided the shutout late in the game when Dee Parker found the end zone on an 8-yard run with 2:15 remaining.

Corbin dominated from start to finish, using a balanced offensive attack and a stifling defense to remain unbeaten in district play.

The Redhounds (5-3, 2-0) will continue district play next week, while Whitley County (1-7, 0-2) will look to bounce back as the regular season winds down.
