Played with great heart tonight,” South Laurel coach John Hines said. “We didn’t play well, we made a lot of mistakes, and we had a real battle on our hands with Perry Central. But I’m proud of the way we Rose to the occasion and made the plays we needed to make, to bring home another victory for the Cards. . Defensive line play was strong. Ethan Leach, Braxton, Carol, and Bridger Ray, had very strong games. LBs played well made plays all night. Liam Newton, Tim Thompson, Mika Smith, and Tanner Hammons all had some big hits. Secondary was very solid and shut down their passing game. Bo Walters with an intersection, Garrison Brown and interception, it’s overall good play on defense.
“Offensively, it was exciting to see Wes
run the ball like he did,” he added. “Had some really strong performances as well out of our wide receivers, Garrison Brown, Carter Kelley, and gunner Williams. Good tidy and play by Ethan Leach, and Eli Roark. Also nice to see the freshman. Ross Ryser get some quality tidying reps. Really glad to see your offensive line play the well the way they played. We ran the ball better in this game than we have probably all year. Johnathan Inman, (Ethan Rose), Logan Hayre, gutter queen, Tanner Hammons, Javier Zuniga, and others all had a strong night on the line of scrimmage against much bigger defensive players.
“We’re awful proud of our coaches,” Hines continued. “They did a great job all night, long helping us, overcome adversity, making adjustments, and keep our players on task. Appreciate the crowd. Great to see all the Cardinal faithful out. Win number seven, we’ll take it.”
