LEXINGTON — Williamsburg returned to the field Friday night after a two-week layoff but couldn’t find its rhythm, falling 41-16 on the road to Sayre.
The loss drops the Yellow Jackets to 2-2 on the season. It also marked their first action since Frankfort forfeited last week’s scheduled matchup.
Sayre set the tone early, using speed and physicality up front to control the game. Williamsburg was able to find the end zone twice — Peyton Hamilton hauled in a touchdown reception from Reece Hatcher while Eli Meadors added a rushing score — but the Spartans’ balance on both sides of the ball proved too much.
Head coach Jerry Herron credited his players’ effort but noted that execution was the difference.
“We played a very good football team,” he said. “They controlled the line of scrimmage. We never got into a rhythm. Their speed and pressure caused us problems on both sides of the ball. Our players played hard it just wasn’t our night.
“We will get back to work watching film and practice and get ready for some JV games and then district play,” he added. “Peyton Hamilton had a receiving TD, and Eli Meadors had a rushing TD.”
