Corbin Edges South Laurel in Boys’ Soccer Thriller

CORBIN — The Corbin Redhounds continued their hot streak Tuesday, defeating South Laurel 1-0 behind a late goal from JP Carmichael. The win marked Corbin’s third straight victory, improving its record to 4-2-1 on the season.

After battling to a scoreless tie for most of the match, Carmichael broke through with just 12 minutes remaining, delivering the game-winner that secured a hard-fought district win for the Redhounds. South Laurel, meanwhile, dropped its second straight match and now sits at 4-2.

Corbin coach Roger Taylor credited his team for putting together their strongest effort of the season.

“Thought the team played our most complete game of the season tonight,” he said. “Jackson Willis and Cameron Smith have stepped up in the midfield in a huge way with excellent defensive play and ball control. We are creating more chances than ever and becoming more and more dangerous. JP Carmichael scored a clutch goal with about 12 minutes left. It was a great start to seeded play.”
